vcfo Austin team welcomes Ken Dorward as Managing Director.
Ken Dorward joins vcfo to lend 25 years of experience building teams and profitability for startups and publicly-traded multinationals alike. Data-driven and action-oriented, he favors bold business strategies. He excels in building the sophisticated systems and processes to bring clarity to an enterprise’s finances and operations. Ken has worn many hats in his career, including CEO, COO, CFO, and Chief Growth Officer. He seeks to help grow and build organizations, nurture executives, and enable easier collaboration amidst complexity.
Ken is often called on to apply his experience in sports, media, digital advertising, and technology to reach new markets. He knows how to tell a story and get stakeholders invested whether they are sophisticated investors or newly-acquired leadership teams. In fact, while leading the creation of a new media startup, he was credited as a producer on an Emmy-nominated TV series.
Prior to joining vcfo, Ken was Chief Growth Officer and President of XLMedia’s North America business unit. While at XLMedia, he grew his business unit’s share of global revenues from 10% to 60% in less than 24 months, reaching $50M in 2022.
Ken also previously served as CFO and COO at Rakuten Advertising, a global AdTech subsidiary of Rakuten Group, named one of the World’s Most Innovated Companies by Forbes, a Fortune Future 50 company, and a top 50 Global retailer by the NRF. He formed a team that developed critical planning, budgeting, and analysis to support revenue growth from $175M to $300M. As the highest-rated senior executive (the CEO nominated him for Executive of the Year), Ken created a new business operation system to enable all leaders to present P&L and other key metrics against set balanced scorecard targets.
Further, after previously stepping in to save the family business, Ken is not only functionally familiar with what is takes, but understands the heavy and complex emotional components that go with a transition of a beloved family business.
Always passionate about environmental causes, Ken loves to spend time outdoors with his four children. Fish in Texas lakes and coastal waters tremble when they sense his approach.
